Life Lately: April

Image
Hi there! This month has gone by so quickly and I have been so busy that I suddenly realized I haven't written any posts in ages. It slipped my mind with so many other things going on. Luckily, I'll be done with school in a couple of weeks, so I will be less swamped with homework and papers and projects. Today I'll just give you a look into what I've been up to that's kept me so busy. Posts next month will go back to normal. So here's what's happened this month... First of all, aside from school, I've been kept pretty busy knitting and crocheting things for people. I made this manatee for myself. These are baby shoes I crocheted for a friend of my mom for her baby girl, so cute! This is a cowl that I'm working on right now that I'm giving to my mom for Mother's Day. She got me the pattern and yarn to make it for myself after she saw it in this blue in the shop. She talked about that yarn so much that I went o...

Early Mornings

Image
Hey everyone! So, it's pretty unusual for me to be up and writing a post this early in the morning (it's currently 9:08 AM). I am most definitely NOT a morning person, and I find it to be very, very difficult to drag my sleepy butt out of bed in the mornings. However, this morning, I had a meeting with one of my professors scheduled for 9:00 this morning. I ended up being about 20 minutes early, and the meeting only lasted about five minutes. So here I am at school two hours before I have to work.  While it really isn't fun getting up early, I sort of like being awake in the morning. I feel like I have so much more time to get things done and so much more to see. Right now, I'm getting all of my homework done so I can enjoy myself after work tonight. It's kind of nice getting everything done in the morning and then having the rest of the day to myself! I think I'd like to be a morning person, but I don't really see that ever happening....

Wanderlust Tag

Image
Hey guys! I saw this tag done on  Kenzie's  blog a while ago and, since I love to travel, thought I'd give it a go.  Where have you traveled to and where would you like to go again? Well so far I've traveled to 27 out of 50 states in America, and I've also been to Canada, England, France, Italy, and Switzerland. The place I'd like to go back to the most in England, because I really didn't see much besides the airport. Also, my sister and I would like to take my mom on a trip to France, because she really wants to go to Paris, and a mother-daughters trip to Paris will be so fun! (I think I got them all) Where was your first plane journey to? My first ever plane journey was a really short flight from Michigan to Wisconsin, but that was a super short flight, we didn't even get food. My first proper plane journey was to France. You're leaving tomorrow, money is no object, where do you go? I think I would go to Australia...

Life Update: March

Hey there! I have been a terrible blogger recently, and I'm sorry about that. I have just been soooo busy, so I thought I'd let you guys know what's been going on in my life. I started a new job! A couple of weeks ago I started working in a craft store called Hobby Lobby. I'm still pretty new, so it's a little scary still, but I really enjoy my job there so far. Also, it makes buying tons and tons of yarn more affordable :D I recently made a Facebook page which I talked about in my  last post . Basically, I post stuff I knit/crochet and people can ask me to make one for them. This past week, I've gotten four new orders- I'm making 3 ninja turtles and a Minnie Mouse. This is my first round of orders since I made the page, so that's pretty exciting! In the fall, I'm moving two hours away from home to a new city to start at a new university. This morning, I filled out my housing application. I've also been buying some things for my room the...

Heidi's Creations

Image
Hey there! So some fun things have happened this week. First, I've started working again. I applied a ton of places and finally decided on Hobby Lobby. I love knitting and sewing and other crafty things, so I thought it would be a really good fit for me! My first day was yesterday, and though I didn't do much other than signing paperwork and watching boring safety videos, I liked it, and I think I'm really gonna enjoy working there. Also, I've been looking for a way to sell things I make. Like I said before, I love making things and crafty things, and I often have people ask me to make them things. So, I've started a Facebook page called Heidi's Creations, where I'll be posting things I make for people to buy. This affects you guys, too! If you take a look at the page and find something you like, I'm happy to make you one! You can request things I post in other sizes or colors, or new things altogether! Unfortunately, right now I...

Banned Books

Image
Today, I want to talk about an issue that is really important to me- banned books. Reading is a huge  part of my life. My mom read to me tons as a kid. My older sister used to teach me letters and words she'd learned in school before I was old enough to go. I told my kindergarten teacher on the first day that I was only there to learn to read better. I was reading chapter books like Stuart Little  by the time I was 5. Even now, I'm going to school to become a book editor, so that I can (hopefully) read for a living, and be responsible for discovering the next big, beloved book. Reading was made fun. My mom, sister, and I would cuddle up together in my mom's big bed, and we would read out loud to each other. While my mom did most of the reading, my sister and I took our turns, too. It was fun time that we were able to spend together and hear wonderful stories. One of the things that we read together was the Harry Potter series. I loved these books, a...

Disappointment in University of Wisconsin

Image
Unfortunately, today is another rant. I feel bad doing two rants in a row, but things have been getting worse and worse, I really just need to talk about what is going on. Also, I'm hoping that I might help someone to avoid what is happening to me. I am enrolled in my fourth semester at a college in the University of Wisconsin system. In the past few weeks, I have had nothing but problems and disappointment with them that really should have been avoided. I signed up for an online class since the class I needed on campus filled up. However, I dropped that class and enrolled in a different online class instead. As I did all of this weeks before the deadline to add/drop classes, it should not have been a problem. However, the fees for both classes are still showing up in my tuition breakdown. University of Wisconsin is asking me to pay $125 for a class I dropped before the semester even started.  In addition, when I looked at my tuition breakdown, I also saw a fee for...
